“What is the Leader in Training program?”
The Leader in Training or LIT program is a leadership development program for former campers who are at least 17 years old or have completed the Hero's Journey® program. The program consists of a mixture of one-on-one mentoring by Camp staff and small group workshops where LITs learn how to be a leader both at Camp and in the world.
“How old do I have to be an LIT?”
To participate in the LIT I program, you must be at least 17 years old, or have completed the Hero's Journey® program. In order to be considered for LIT II you must have completed LIT I.
“What is the difference between LIT I and II?”
LIT I participants are former campers who spend one session engaging in leadership-related workshops and helping out around Camp. The LIT II program is a selective opportunity in which participants spend two back-to-back sessions at Camp further developing their leadership skills through workshops, mentoring and direct practice with staff and campers. Individuals who have successfully completed the LIT I program are eligible to apply for the LIT II program.
“How many individuals will be selected for the LIT program?”
This year we are looking to select approximately 40 LIT I participants and 20 LIT II participants.
“Where will I be sleeping?”
You will be sleeping at Camp, in a separate area from Cabin Circle. You will be sharing a room with at least one other fellow participant. A staff member will be housed in an adjacent room in case of emergency.
“What does the application look like?”
The LIT application has several parts - general information and a questionnaire completed by a parent or guardian if applicant is not 18 years or older, medical forms completed by a medical professional, a personal statement and resume completed by the LIT applicant, and a letter of recommendation from someone who knows the applicant well (teacher, job supervisor, religious leaders, etc.).
“How do I apply?”
You can apply to be an LIT participant by completing the online application by March 1, 2020. Once all of the components of the application have been received, it will be reviewed and you will be contacted via email to set up a phone interview with a Camp staff.
