Journey Year Overview
Choose your own journey towards adulthood and become the “Hero of your own story” or a “Champion of your future”. Whether participants are returning to Camp or attending for the first time, the Journey Program creates space for young people aged 16-17 to explore their identity, contribute to a community and build confidence.
Like our traditional summer program for ages 7-15, the Hero’s Journey® and Champion’s Journey programs are rooted in safety, respect and love. From this foundation, participants are encouraged to step outside of their comfort zone and into their “stretch zone” by learning new skills, engaging within a community and rising to the occasion with individual and team building challenges.
Hero’s Journey®, located at our primitive campsite in the Connecticut woods, is a 6-day outdoor adventure program that combines wilderness skills, identity exploration and community living experiences to help participants become the “hero of their own story.”
Champion’s Journey participants enjoy daily traditional camp activities (arts & crafts, archery, woodshop, etc.) while working on a multi-day “mastery project” in a program area of their choice. Champions learn about themselves, their peers and Camp’s programming by supporting experiences for younger Campers and participating in Champion’s-specific activities to become the “Champions of their future.”

I have found that upon returning home from HJ, I do not have words to describe how much this program meant to me, which I believe only proves how meaningful it was. The staff has literally left me speechless, through their tireless work and dedication to campers and the program. I was amazed by everyone's positive attitudes and ability to gel as a team. I would not trade this experience for anything. It has greatly enhanced my world view and I know it will greatly impact the work I do, all in positive ways.
