Seasonal Summer Staff

Requirements for all seasonal staff positions

  • Must be 18 years old by May 1, 2025*
  • Physically and mentally able to facilitate care of Campers
  • Be familiar with and enforce all safety, emergency and Camp policies
  • Serve as a role model and provide support to Camp volunteers
  • The ability to work with a diverse community in a multicultural environment
  • Commitment to fostering a community that celebrates inclusivity and our Camp values, which include friendship, inclusion, gratitude, possibility and safety
  • Be flexible with the changing needs of the program
  • Perform other duties as deemed necessary by Camp leadership
  • Positions are residential and hired for the duration of our summer program. The time commitment is early June to late August and begins with an 8-day residential orientation at Camp

Application Process

Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and we will consider candidates for video interviews. Staff positions may require several video interviews. All hires will be contingent on positive references, criminal background check, proof that the applicant is legally authorized to work in the United States, and the completion of comprehensive Medical History/Physical Forms. Medical forms will be provided once an applicant has been hired.

Application Deadline

We will continue to process applications until all positions have been filled. We will start making offers after March 1, 2025.

Reference Forms / Letters

Three references are required for NEW applicants; at least one must be a professional reference. References from family/friends or full-time Hole in the Wall staff will NOT be considered.

Two references are required for RETURNING applicants; at least one must be a professional reference. References from family/friends or full-time Hole in the Wall staff will NOT be considered.

Compensation

  • Residential salary starts at $5,000; Facilities and Kitchen hourly rate
  • Housing and meals provided
  • Travel reimbursement of up to $200 available for candidates traveling more than 500 miles to Hole in the Wall

Seasonal Infirmary Team

Each member of the summer infirmary staff works together as part of a multi-disciplinary team of nurses, doctors, dietary staff and medical volunteers, as well as program and residential life staff, to provide excellent care to our campers. The infirmary team provides a safe and fun Camp experience for all campers, providing holistic and camper-centered care, tailored to each camper's needs.

Program Counselors

Program Counselors are responsible for planning, implementing and facilitating intentional, adaptable and outcome-based programming for children of all abilities, ages 7 - 15. In addition to working alongside seasonal staff and volunteers in the cabins, Program Counselors help create and foster an inclusive and safe environment in their program area that promotes fun, engaging and impactful activities for campers. 

Photo/Video Program Counselor

The Photography and Videography (P/V) Program Counselors are responsible for capturing, editing and cataloging visual media throughout seasonal onsite programming.

Seasonal Leadership Roles

Seasonal Leadership serves as leaders/role models for our Camp community. As role models, they must have strong organizational and communication skills and be adept at working independently and as part of/lead a team. Seasonal Leadership will work closely with the year-round leadership team. Flexibility is paramount in these positions as tasks may be assigned that fall outside of specific job responsibilities. 

Journey Program Staff

The Journey Program is a 6-day experiential program for participants ages 16 - 18 to experience self-discovery, camaraderie, gratitude and personal growth through intentionally crafted experiences. The program is comprised of two distinct tracks: Hero’s Journey® and Champion’s Journey. All Journey Program staff work with both Hero’s Journey® and Champions Journey participants.

Lead Counselor

Lead Counselors are responsible for all roles and responsibilities of a Cabin Counselor as well as assisting other staff in their unit with problem-solving daily challenges, efficiently communicating plans or updates and planning/facilitating large group events for staff and participants. The Lead Counselor will work together with their Unit Leader and Residential Life Team to support unit staff, campers and the operations of the unit as a whole.

Cabin Counselor

Responsible for leading and facilitating the group experience of 7 - 9 campers each session. Cabin Counselors are expected to support camper needs, facilitate individual and small group activities and model Camp values. Cabin Counselors live in a cabin with campers and three other counselors, and help to create a safe, happy and memorable experience for all.

Unit Leaders

The Unit Leader position is responsible for overseeing and managing the logistics and daily operations of one full unit, functioning as a leader and role model for all staff, volunteers and campers. Unit Leaders are expected to assist other staff and volunteers with problem-solving daily challenges, efficiently communicating plans or updates within their team, and planning/facilitating large group events for staff and participants. Unit Leaders are also expected to take a proactive role in helping staff appropriately support their camper’s social, emotional and medical needs. This position works together with a Lead Counselor and the Residential Life Team to plan and facilitate unit-wide events, build community within their team, and support the staff, volunteers and campers in their unit.

Seasonal Support Roles

Support roles work closely with departments across Camp and must have strong organizational and communication skills, able to work independently and as part of/lead a team. Flexibility is paramount in these positions as tasks may be assigned that fall outside of specific job responsibilities.

Seasonal Facilities and Kitchen Staff

Seasonal facilities and kitchen staff are key to ensuring a positive Camp experience for all Campers, staff and volunteers.
