At Hole in the Wall Camp, Families are Formed
Tesi'ah, 15, was in cheerleading practice when her cell phone started ringing repeatedly. She tried to concentrate on her cheers, but she couldn't stop looking at her phone, which was on the ground next to her. It lit up over and over again. It was her best friend, Dannielle, also 15. The two had met at the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Ashford, where they attended summer camp for children with sickle cell anemia. The girls, who each have the inherited blood disorder that affects primarily African-Americans, later discovered they lived a short distance from one another, and their friendship grew.
