Screening of The Sting and Marvin Hamlisch to Honor Paul Newman

The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp will Celebrate its Founder's Legacy at Westport Country Playhouse on January 30, 2012

New Haven, Conn. – December 14, 2011 The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp will visit the hometown of its founder Paul Newman to celebrate his creative and philanthropic spirit at Westport Country Playhouse on Monday, January 30, 2012 at 6pm with a special screening of The Sting and a musical performance by Academy Award-winning Composer Marvin Hamlisch.

“I looked up to Paul Newman as a true role model,” recalled Hamlisch who won an Oscar for adapting the music for the iconic 1973 film that starred Newman and Robert Redford. “He was one of those rare people who put their money where their mouth is. He didn’t just dream about making the world a better place – he set his mind to it and did it – with the Camp as well as with Newman’s Own. I’m thrilled to be part of the Camp’s Founder’s Day celebration and to be performing in conjunction with this very special screening of The Sting. And to think Paul and I look so much alike!” quipped Hamlisch.

"The evening will highlight the values that Paul Newman held most dear – kindness, compassion and generosity – that are brought to life each day at the Camp he founded 25 years ago,” said The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp Chief Executive Officer James Canton. "How fitting that we'll celebrate Paul's legacy not only in the town that he called home for nearly a half a century, but also at Westport Country Playhouse, which he and Joanne [Woodward] cherished."

“Celebrating THE STING & the Gang” is the Camp’s third Founder’s Day event to be held at Westport Country Playhouse. “It’s our pleasure to once again host a fundraiser for The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp,” said Michael Ross, Westport Country Playhouse managing director. “It’s fitting to provide Paul Newman’s beloved Camp with the theater that he was so supportive of renovating and insuring a future.”

Doors open at 6 p.m., with the program beginning at 7 p.m. Individual tickets for “Celebrating THE STING & the Gang” cost $100 each. Sponsorship packages are available and include advertisement opportunities and a pre-screening reception at the Dressing Room.
