Keeping Paul Newman’s Dream Alive in Ashford, Connecticut

16th Annual Walkathon to benefit The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp takes place October 16 at the Camp in Ashford, Connecticut

New Haven, Connecticut – September 8, 2011 – The Walkathon to benefit The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp will be held on Sunday, October 16th, 2011. Each year, for more than a decade, this event has raised thousands of dollars to put smiles on the faces of some of the most deserving children on the planet. This year’s 16th annual Walk a thon will be no different.

“The Walkathon to benefit The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp is held rain or shine,” says Committee Chair Cindy Lehmann. “Over the years, we’ve walked the main Camp road on sunny days, rainy days and even in a snowstorm!” Each year, anywhere from 100 to 200 walkers participate.

At the Camp, children with serious and life-threatening illnesses and conditions find healing and camaraderie. As one Hole in the Wall Gang camper puts it, "I love it here. Sometimes you think being sick gives you limits, but here you can try anything."

Founded in 1988 by Paul Newman, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp is a nonprofit, year-round center serving children and their families coping with cancer, sickle cell anemia, and other serious illnesses. Through summer sessions and family weekend programs at the Camp in Ashford, Connecticut, and year-round outreach to hospitals and clinics throughout the Northeast, the Camp will serve more than 17,500 children in 2011. All services are free of charge, thanks to the generosity of many donors and friends.
