MEDIA ADVISORY

Team Hole in the Wall PSA Shoot to Take Place at Camp Challenge Ride to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang Camp

NEW HAVEN, CONN., SEP 5, 2012 –The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp announced today that it is creating a one of a kind Team Hole in the Wall PSA that will showcase “a different kind of healing” in celebration of the Camp’s 25th anniversary. Reporters are invited to watch the behind-the-scenes filming at the Camp in Ashford, Conn. during the Camp Challenge Ride on Saturday, September 8, 2012 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

“There’s nothing that compares to the sight of hundreds of cyclists riding for a good cause,” said David MacNiven, director of Team Hole in the Wall. “The efforts of the athletes will help provide children battling serious illness with ‘a different kind of healing’ at The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp and this new PSA for Team will celebrate all those involved as well as the Camp’s 25th anniversary.”

What makes this event even more unique is that London-based graphic designer Katy Beveridge created a bike stencil representative of the joy The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp brings to the seriously ill children who attend the Camp. Riders will attach Katy’s stencil to their bicycle wheels, which creates a zoetrope, a spinning device that produces the illusion of a moving animation from a series of static images. Reporters will also have the opportunity to tour the Camp and Katy Beveridge is also available by phone for interviews. Please RSVP.

About The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp’s 25th Anniversary: In 1988, Paul Newman opened The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Connecticut so that children coping with serious illnesses could have a special hideout where they could simply be kids. The Camp, which served 288 campers its first year, is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2012-13 with 20,000 children and family members now experiencing “a different kind of healing” annually. Each year, 2,500 are served onsite and 19,000 visits by the Hospital Outreach Program bring the fun and friendship of Camp into more than 20 sites throughout the Northeast – all free of charge. The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp is celebrating this milestone with events and initiatives that will gather the Camp family together and invite new friends to support Paul Newman’s dream.
