Notification of Blackbaud Data Breach

Dear members of our Camp family,

On July 16, 2020, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp was notified by Blackbaud, Inc., a service provider that hosts our donor database, that they discovered and stopped a ransomware attack that culminated in May 2020. According to Blackbaud, prior to locking the cybercriminal out, a copy of a subset of data was removed from their servers, which prompted Blackbaud to pay the cybercriminal’s demand with confirmation that the copied data was destroyed.

Although Blackbaud assured affected organizations that encrypted data such as bank and credit card information were not accessed during this attack, it is possible that other donor data such as contact and demographic information as well as details of relationships to Camp – including gift dates and amounts – may have been exposed. Based on the nature of the incident and third-party investigation (including by law enforcement), Blackbaud shared that they have no reason to believe that any data went beyond the cybercriminal; was or will be misused; or will be disseminated or made public.

Out of an abundance of care and caution, we wanted to make you aware of this unfortunate situation. Blackbaud is one of the leading donor database providers in the non-profit sector, and Hole in the Wall is just one of many of their clients throughout the world affected by this attack. Therefore, you may have received or will receive notification from other organizations regarding this matter. Please note that each organization’s situation is unique based on the type of Blackbaud products they use and potential data exposure.

We do not believe there is a need for you to take any action at this time. As a best practice, we recommend that you remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity or suspected identity theft to the proper authorities. We continue to investigate this incident and receive information from Blackbaud. If any sensitive personal information beyond that identified above may have been exposed, we will notify potentially impacted individuals directly.

One of the things that The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp treasures most – and never takes for granted – is the faith placed in us by our families, donors and all members of our Camp community. Safeguarding your information is something that we continue to take very seriously, and we will continue to be as vigilant as possible in taking whatever steps necessary to protect the information that you share with us.

We deeply regret any inconvenience that this situation may have caused. To learn more about this incident, you may wish to see Blackbaud’s statement at https://www.blackbaud.com/securityincident.
