Home to Magic, Oreo and more, the Horse Barn is the place where horseback riding becomes possible for everyone. Whether a loop around the ring or a walk along our wooded trails, every encounter is sure to be accompanied by smiles broader than even the biggest horse.
On a hot summer’s day, the pool is the place to be! Heated to a medically appropriate 88°, the pool is accessible to all thanks to a zero-entry seamless transition from land to water. Camp’s pool is home to countless wacky noodles and a sea of similarly inclined campers whose Olympic-sized smiles can’t be dried off with even the biggest of towels. And if there is a chill in the air, you can always warm up in the French Fryer!
Warming the hearts, souls and bodies of weekend program attendees and summer staff and volunteers alike, Lulu’s Lodge made its Camp debut in 2005. Boasting 20 bedrooms and a cozy fireplace, it’s ideal for unwinding after the day or reminiscing with old and new friends alike.
Henry’s High Hopes Course & Audrey’s Air Lines were built in 2017 providing a cumulative high ropes experience for our oldest three units of campers. Reaching the top, and completing the high ropes elements, are rites of passage. It’s also a symbol of the perceived limitations so courageously challenged and beautifully surmounted at Camp. But reaching the 40-foot summit not only represents a significant achievement, it also ends with a journey down side-by-side zip lines where campers experience an incredible feeling of freedom played to the soundtrack of their joyful screams.
Completed in 2021, the Young Adult Lodge is homebase for our Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) programming at the Connecticut Location. A horseshoe of accessible bunkrooms featuring shared en-suite bathrooms surround a private courtyard, while the main entrance leads to the communal area. This large, airy space is where AYA participants engage in workshops and activities, as well as enjoy free time.
On December 10, 1986 a Groundbreaking ceremony was held at Camp, and construction began. Camp opened in the summer of 1988, with 15 perfect little cabins in five units: Blue, Yellow, Red, White and Green! It wasn’t until a few years later that the White Unit became the Purple Unit. Cabin unit colors are the inspiration of summer UNITy days and home to dance parties, the beloved pre-bed routine of cabin chat and where Campers spend rest hour recharging for an afternoon and evening of programming.
Sink a hole-in-one at Camp’s accessible putt-putt course, which received an Old-West renovation in 2019. A favorite of Family Camps and summer sessions alike, fun is always par for the course here.
Camp’s Infirmary, also known as the O.K. Corral, is home to some of the best doctors and nurses on the planet! Both volunteers and Hole in the Wall medical staff staff the infirmary while taking medications and other care directly to Campers at program.
Step inside and see the beautiful murals painted by Camp’s own Momma Talley. You’d never guess you’re in the heart of a sophisticated medical operation, but the Infirmary provides the unobtrusive medical care our campers require. Can you find Mr. Newman on his bike? Ruby red slippers? Dancing bears?
Modeled after a scene from the Old West, Downtown Camp is home to arts & crafts, woodshop and the cooking zone. After a fire destroyed the original buildings that housed these programming areas, Camp rebuilt the space using universal design to best meet the varied needs of Hole in the Wall’s children and families. Inside the Creative Complex, campers are able to express their creativity with any project they are able to dream up. We’ve seen Adirondack chairs, designer t-shirts and pretty much everything crafted from duct tape, and so much more! Here, the only limitation is your imagination.
It’s really simple. You walk in through the “in door” and leave by way of the “out door.” Got it? Failure to follow this simple rule will result in you having to shake your bushy tail on the Dining Hall dance floor for all of Camp to see. We have also bounced and danced our way across three different Dining Hall floors and raised countless banners up the Dining Hall walls. If this building could speak, it would tell stories of a joyful community that celebrates each meal with a song and a dance!
Camp’s gymnasium has seen its fair share of action, with an entire closet filled with all the sporting equipment you could ever want, video games and a staff workout room. Newman himself was known to take on a friendly challenge on the pool tables, which continue to be a popular feature in the space today.
Camp’s stage has seen its fair share of celebrities over the years, but none shine as bright as our campers on Stage Night. Camp’s talent show, often an epic 50 acts long, is a night of cheering and clapping for everyone who steps into the spotlight. Located behind the stage, the theater is also home to two giant costume closets and a music studio with a recording room for campers to record their musical talents.
Launched in 2004, the Archery Program really hits the spot! Campers of all ages and abilities are welcome to aim for a bullseye thanks to special bows and built-in shelves to help hold and position for the perfect shot. Located right next to the playground, archers are able to spend time outdoors with unique challenges on the archery range, followed by time on the swings.
Whether you fancy a rowboat, paddle boat or pontoon boat, Camp has pretty much every pond-worthy vessel there is down at the Boathouse. All fishing at Camp is “kiss and release”! And despite the best efforts of thousands of campers, staff and volunteers alike, WeePee has never been caught! The legendary fish of Pearson’s Pond is said to have once been a goldfish belonging to our founder, Paul Newman. Newman released WeePee into the waters and to this day, he’s proven to be a tricky fish to catch and kiss.
Expro, also known as exploration program, is a place where our more senior campers come to kick-back and relax. Home to our outdoor pizza oven and hammocks, Expro is known as a place to play Frisbee golf, chill out with friends over a homemade slice or have a paint war.
Home to an elusive and humongous fish known as “Wee-Pee,” Pearson Pond is named after Camp’s founding medical director Doc Pearson and employs a very strict “kiss and release” policy. The lake is a beautiful place to spend a sunny afternoon canoeing, fishing or having your counselor provide all the leg power to your pedal-boat.
