Created By Community

We are a community that includes the kids and families we serve, the volunteers and staff who help us make a difference, the partners and donors who support our mission, and the alumni who keep our community strong. Together, we make “a different kind of healing”® possible!

Campers and Families

At the heart of Hole in the Wall are the children with serious illnesses and their families who discover joy and friendship through Camp programs. From hospital bedsides to on-site programs, they are not defined by the illnesses they face but by the kids they can be with Camp.

A woman holds a young child who is smiling and holding sunflowers, while an adult stands nearby. They are outdoors on a sunny day, with green grass and trees in the background.

Volunteers and Helping Hands

Inspired by Paul Newman’s vision, thousands donate their time and funds to make Camp magic. From volunteers to fundraisers, donors and corporate partners, each member of our community discovers that by supporting Hole in the Wall, they are helping make a difference and gain a full heart in return.

A smiling adult and child sit together, waving at the camera. The child wears a tuxedo-print shirt. A surprised child is in the background. Both appear happy and engaged in a cheerful, indoor setting.

Staff

Camp is a place of endless possibility — and our staff work hard to keep it that way! Some are seasonal counselors, some are former campers, some are new to Camp and dedicated to spreading the magic of Hole in the Wall, but they all share one thing in common: a dedication to ensuring the vibrancy of our founder’s dream is felt and experienced across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.

Key Staff

Dr. Nick Evageliou

Medical Director, Maryland

Dr. Nicholas “Dr. Nick” Evageliou has had a long-standing relationship with The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, beginning in 1990 when he first joined as a summer camp driver. During that time, he has served in many roles, including unit leader and volunteer physician at the Connecticut camp, before being appointed as Medical Director of the Maryland location.

As Medical Director, Dr. Nick oversees all aspects of medical care at Camp, leading the development and operation of the infirmary to ensure that children with serious illnesses can safely participate in all programs. He guides a team of volunteer medical professionals and helps create an environment where expert care is delivered with compassion, creativity, and a sense of fun.

Shaped me into who I am today

I came here as a camper for just under 10 years, worked as a summer counselor for 2 years, and I have been volunteering ever since. Camp has shaped me into who I am today. It’s taught me to raise a little hell and me comfortable living with my serious illnesses. Not only that, it has introduced me to a community of friends and mentors that I count myself lucky to have. I cannot say enough good things about this camp.

–– Former Camper and Seasonal Staff Member Isaac

Board of Directors

Paul Newman assembled a dream team of founding directors whose hearts and hands helped shape “a different kind of healing.” Today, some of those passionate people still serve on Camp’s Board of Directors and have been joined by a committed group of leaders who continue to compassionately carry the torch Newman left in our care. Our Board provides guidance and strategic oversight of the organization. Board committees include Executive, Development, Finance, Buildings and Grounds and Program Committees.
