Founded in 1988 by Paul Newman, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp provides “a different kind of healing” to more than 20,000 seriously ill children and family members annually - all completely free of charge. For many of these children and families, Hole in the Wall provides multiple Camp experiences throughout the year at the facility in Ashford, Conn., in more than 40 hospitals and clinics, directly in camper homes and communities, and through other outreach activities across the Northeast and mid-Atlantic.

Position Description

Our Assistant Housekeeper is an important member of our housekeeping team. The role contributes to the overall cleanliness of our Camp programming site and to the effective functioning of residential, office, and programmatic spaces.

Our Assistant Housekeeper can expect to...

  • Take direction from the Lead Housekeeper as well as work independently.
  • Clean and maintain all buildings.
  • Perform laundry pick up duties.
  • Gather and respond to housekeeping supply requests during the summer.
  • Ensure all assigned buildings are stocked with janitorial supplies.
  • Assist with maintaining inventory of cleaning supplies, linens and bottled water.
  • Demonstrate the core values of the organization.
  • Assist with special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.

Our Assistant Housekeeper should have...

  • Six months of housekeeping experience, but not required.
  • The ability to establish positive relationships with a variety of people in multicultural environments.
  • An ability to remain organized and to manage time effectively.
  • A proactive approach to work and an ability to multi-task and prioritize work day/projects independently.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and a willingness to engage and become a part of our residential programming community.
  • A willingness and ability to work weekends during the Spring and Fall programs.
  • A willingness to work a flexible schedule that follows along with seasonal programming needs. 
  • An ability to work extended hours as needed. 
  • A willingness and ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 9 hours.)
  • A willingness and ability to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 25 pounds.
