Founder's Day Event to Celebrate Paul Newman

The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp to celebrate its founder’s vision on January 30, 2012 at Westport Country Playhouse

New Haven, Conn. – January 18, 2012 – The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp’s Founder’s Day Celebration in honor of Paul Newman will take place at Westport Country Playhouse on Monday, January 30, 2012 at 6 p.m. and feature a musical performance by Academy Award-winning composer Marvin Hamlisch and a special screening of THE STING.

Founded by Paul Newman in 1988, The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp serves children with serious illnesses, including cancer, sickle cell anemia, HIV/AIDS and hemophilia. The Camp’s services will touch 20,000+ children this year alone. All services provided by the Camp are free of charge.

“I looked up to Paul Newman as a true role model,” recalled Hamlisch who won an Oscar for adapting the music for the iconic 1973 film that starred Newman and Robert Redford. “He was one of those rare people who put their money where their mouth is. He didn’t just dream about making the world a better place – he set his mind to it and did it – with the Camp as well as with Newman’s Own. I’m thrilled to be part of the Camp’s Founder’s Day celebration and to be performing in conjunction with this very special screening of THE STING. And to think Paul and I look so much alike!” quipped Hamlisch.

"The evening will highlight the values that Paul Newman held most dear – kindness, compassion and generosity – that are brought to life each day at the Camp he founded 25 years ago,” said The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp Chief Executive Officer James Canton. "How fitting that we'll celebrate Paul's legacy not only in the town that he called home for nearly a half a century, but also at Westport Country Playhouse, which he and Joanne [Woodward] cherished."

Doors open at 6 p.m., with the program beginning at 7 p.m. Individual tickets for “Celebrating THE STING & the Gang” cost id="mce_marker"00 each. Sponsorship packages are available and include advertisement opportunities and a pre-screening reception at the Dressing Room.
