How many children come to
The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp each summer?
More than 1,000 seriously ill children (including our
Leaders-in-Training program) attended the Camp in 9 sessions
during summer 2007. The first session began on June 8 and the last session ended August
26. Since 1988 over 17,000 children have attended
the Camp.

What illnesses do the children have?
Cancer, Sickle Cell, HIV/AIDS and other serious illnesses and
conditions
What is the counselor/staff ratio to camper?
The counselor/staff ratio to camper is 1 to 2. There are situations where the ratio is 1 to 1.
What kind of medical care do the campers receive?
There is excellent medical care with around the clock medical supervision provided by 2 doctors, a staff of 6 nurses and many qualified volunteers.
What activities are offered at the Camp?
Each camper enjoys a full range of activities that include fishing, swimming, camping, performing arts, arts and crafts, creative writing, boating, horseback riding, computer education, all forms of athletic activities plus plenty of singing and dancing.
Does the Camp offer other programs throughout the rest of the year?
Yes. Year-round programs include weekends for parents and families, reunions for campers and siblings, retreats and conferences for healthcare professionals and bereavement
weekends. The Camp's Hospital Outreach program takes
"Camp-in-a-Suitcase" programs to New England hospitals
and clinics, where it provides a bedside experience to raise the
spirits and help sustain seriously ill children for the road
ahead.
What does it cost to run The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp?
Our fundraising goal for 2007-2008 is $7.6 million to meet operating expenses, depreciation and to build the endowment. We
also have a capital renovation and expansion goal of $2 million.
Doesn't Paul Newman donate all profits from Newman's Own to the Camp?
No. The seed money for The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Ashford, CT was made possible through Paul Newman's profits from Newman's Own. However, the Camp now stands on its own and receives funding from many generous individuals, corporations, foundations and organizations (about
15,700 gifts in 2007).
